This WP is aimed at testing and evaluating the VEO system on their applicability in a disease x use case scenario
- a fast spreading EID, with high case fatality by an unknown pathogen. Questions addressed are:
1) How sensitive and rapid is metagenomic diagnostics to detect a novel epidemic (viral) pathogen
2) Can we improve horizon scanning by identifying changes in the key drivers of disease emergence?
3) In the event of an emergence, can we apply rapidly the tools developed to support pandemic response?
4) What are the barriers to the rapid deployment of the different tools to be used in a pandemic response?
Through WP09 - Disease X use case scenario – they have developed an online tool for comparing the risk of Disease X- a novel, potentially pandemic-causing pathogen emergence across the globe and across the years.
This model combines data on 10 key drivers of Disease X emergence together to produce one global risk map. The overall risk scenario can be tailored to predict different types of Disease X, depending on the disease situation. More information on how the tool works, what the drivers are, and what different scenarios are covered is provided in the app.
